While the use of masks can help to prevent transmission of disease from infected patients to others, the Department of Health and The World Health Organisation (WHO) do not currently recommend that masks should be used by healthy members of the public for the prevention of infections like coronavirus. The WHO advise that people should only be wearing a mask if they are caring for someone with the suspected virus.
