ABC news: Australians are living longer but what does it take to reach 100 years old?

In recent times it has become more apparent that Australians are living longer. In fact the average lifespan of an Australian woman is now 85. Scientists are looking to solidify the reasons why and how we can predict long healthy lives. 

Professor Perminder Sachdev, a neuropsychiatrist at the University of NSW indicates that there are a number of factors contributing to a long and healthy life. As improvements in supports such as healthcare, nutrition and education have continued to take place across Australia our overall life expectancy has increased.  Other key longevity indicators are being able to maintain stable housing and education.
