Caring For A Parent At Home

Caring for your loved one can require big decisions to be made at an emotionally charged time.

In this short video, Nick McDonald (CEO and founder of Prestige Inhome Care) and his sister, Thea McCroary (General Manager, Sales & Marketing) share their story about caring for their mum at home.

Thea said one of the benefits of having in-home care is that carers are “often there when we now visit mum as well, and it means we can go take the grandkids in to see mum and share that time as family members, not as a carer.”

She also added, “the carers are supporting mum alongside as needed. They’re really integrated with our new way of being as a family.” Nick and Thea’s experience of their mum’s early onset dementia has given them a great deal of empathy for all the other families out there facing a similar situation.

Thea explained that it has taught her about “the importance of making sure we are putting the very best person possible [in to care for our client]. Our mum was extraordinary and she did so much for us, this is our time to make those decisions for her and give her the very best.”

Nick agreed, adding how Prestige’s recruitment approach of thinking ‘would I trust my own mother’s care to this person?’ makes sure that the very best person possible is looking after not only their mum but all of Prestige’s clients.
