Christina highlights the importance of companionship

We recently interviewed Prestige Case Manager, Christina. She explains how meaningful companionship can enrich the lives of both the carer and client.

Recent research suggests that having strong social interactions improve your wellbeing and health, and promotes longevity

Christina describes providing care as “all about purpose and enriching someone’s life” because “every day is a learning day”.

Christina says: “Companionship takes the stress and the fear out of the day-to-day for a lot of the clients. Knowing that someone is going to be there helps, so they can enjoy the activities that they like doing.

“Whether that’s going driving, going to the supermarket, eating out or seeing a film.

“It provides rewarding rich experience learning something new from the carer so it brings purpose to their day”.

24-hour care client, Hugh, says: “I can relax now, knowing that someone comes at 8 o’clock every morning. In the meantime, I can enjoy myself and be relaxed and have nice people like Eve to come and help me enjoy myself, I enjoy life”.

24-hour care client, Anne, says: “It’s the social side of it really, it gives me somebody to talk to. It takes a lot of weight off the family, they don’t have the full responsibility or time. It keeps me in the loop and I believe in that phrase”.

“I enjoy the company of the ladies that come because they give me some very vital and social circle otherwise you drift off, and I think that’s what happens to a lot of old people, they lose contact”.
