Meet Judith

Judith is an independent, educated woman who had a stimulating career in administration and coordination at a university and delivered her self-designed short course at community centres. She values learning and being around like-minded, people who enjoy stimulating discussions about the world around them.

Asking for help was never part of her nature.

But when her eyesight began to deteriorate, everything changed. “How am I going to live?“, Judith recalls asking herself as her confidence slipped and outings became rare.

Facing the Challenge

Judith accepted her condition, but the transition was daunting. She had no prior experience receiving care and no expectations of what help could look like.

“It was a knock to my sense of security,” she says. “I understand why for some people this new reality can be hard to accept.”

Starting Slow

When Judith was approved for a Home Care Package, she began with small steps – help with shopping and cleaning.“Start slow,” she advises others. “Build rapport with carers. They’re polite, respectful, and aware of your feelings.”

Over time, Judith discovered that support wasn’t about losing independence—it was about gaining a lifeline.

Today, carers not only assist with daily tasks but also accompany her on walks, coffee outings, and community activities, enriching her social life.
