Understanding the Levels of Home Care Packages
Home Care Packages are divided into four levels, each providing different amounts of funding to support varying care needs. The levels range from basic support to high-level care.
- Level 1 – Basic Care Needs: Ideal for those requiring minimal support to manage daily tasks.
- Level 2 – Low-Level Care Needs: Suitable for individuals needing some assistance with everyday activities.
- Level 3 – Intermediate Care Needs: Provides additional support for those with more complex care requirements.
- Level 4 – High-Level Care Needs: Designed for individuals with extensive care needs, offering the highest level of funding.
Under Support at Home, there are now eight levels of funding. For more information, view our Support at Home hub.
How to Apply for a Home Care Package
The “Support at Home” program has replaced the Home Care Packages program as of 1 November 2025. If you’ve been approved for a Home Care Package after 12 September 2024 and have been notified that you are on the National Priority System, your approved funding level and place on the wait list will not change.
If you’re looking to apply for government funding, you will need to apply for Support at Home. Applying for Support at home involves a few straightforward steps to help you access the support you need. Here’s a quick overview of the process:
- Step 1: Apply for an Aged Care Assessment
Schedule an assessment through My Aged Care to determine your eligibility. This assessment will identify the appropriate level of care based on your needs. - Step 2: Develop Support Plan
Once assessed, an aged care assessor will develop a Support Plan, making a recommendation for the level of support needed and the services required, based on the assessment. - Step 3: Receive Notice of Decision Letter
You’ll receive a Notice of Decision letter and a unique referral code. - Step 4: Support at Home Funding Allocation
Determine your co-contribution by contacting Services Australia. - Step 5: Call Prestige Inhome Care
Call us on 1300 10 30 10 to book a free consultation and learn more about our services. - Step 6: Enter Agreement and Start Services
Once you’ve signed your service agreement, Prestige will develop your tailored care plan with you and your services will commence.
While you wait for your Support at Home funding to be approved, you can start with private self-funded care. This allows you to access the support you need immediately, and once your package is allocated, we can seamlessly transfer the funding to cover your ongoing care.
