This isolation could be because border closures have separated them from their loved ones, or their loved ones have other commitments. Or they may not have anyone they can rely on.
This is where home care can make a real difference.
As a home care worker, you can bring joy to someone else’s festive season by driving and accompanying them to events they would have otherwise been unable to attend.
Or you may drive and accompany them on their holiday, an annual trip that means the world to them.
You could even visit their home and help alleviate their feelings of loneliness through playing a game, watching a movie or reading a book together. Or simply lending an ear while they recall memories of holiday seasons past.
If you want to make the holiday season joyful for older Australians but you don’t have the qualifications, the good news is you can still start today.
If you’ve previously cared for a loved one, whether it be an ageing parent, grandparent, or someone with a disability, this lived experience may be considered for a Personal Care Attendant role.
A Personal Care Attendant can provide companionship, drive and accompany clients to their events, help around the home and provide personal care support.
Alternatively, you can start as a Home Care Attendant. A Home Care Attendant can carry out the same support as a Personal Care Attendant, excluding personal care.
