To become a registered nurse, you need to complete a Bachelor of Nursing. After you have applied for registration and been accepted, you will then be required to get all relevant vaccinations. A Working With Children Check and National Police Check will also be required.
You should expect to gain the following by completing your Bachelor of Nursing degree:
- Provide care to individuals from diverse backgrounds across different stages of their life
- Be highly literate in the use and management of information and evidence-based knowledge for best practices across a variety of healthcare settings
- Demonstrate leadership through the use of personal, intellectual, and creative autonomy
- Exhibit personal values and beliefs consistent with your role as responsible members of local, national and international, and professional communities
- Recognise and value communication as a tool for negotiation
- Creating new understandings by interacting with others, and furthering your own learning
- Engage effectively in the therapeutic care of a variety of individuals’ health care needs.
Once you have completed your course, you’ll need to apply to the AHPR to practice as a registered nurse. You will need to renew this registration annually.
