Johannah talks about the importance of personal goals

Most of us want to improve some aspect of our lives from time to time and achieving a goal no matter how small can be extremely fulfilling.  At Prestige Inhome Care, we understand the value of setting goals which are focussed on promoting good health and wellbeing in your everyday life.

Prestige Inhome Care’s Client Liaison Officer, Johannah, is a great believer in personal goals. “Any day is a good day to set a personal goal and make a positive change in your life. The Prestige Inhome Care team can support you in setting realistic goals and help you achieve them.”

Realistic goals

It is important to create goals that will enhance your life and are achievable.  You don’t need to set big goals that seem unattainable right now. If you have an injury or illness you talk to somebody who can help you consider both your short term and long term goals. At Prestige we strive to help you set goals which enable you to maintain your independence and live well.

“When our Case Managers create care plans, they strive to develop plans that are specifically tailored to a client’s unique needs'” Johannah explains.  “Their care plan is not only designed to meet their individual needs, but also reflect the client’s goals now and into the future.”

Here are some personal goal ideas:

Eat healthier – maintaining a healthy diet is a simple, achievable goal. Ask your carer to help you set up a new food plan and assist with food preparation.

Be more active – staying physically active can be a challenge for people living with certain conditions, but there are small steps that can contribute to ongoing improvement. Consult your GP to determine the right activity for you and have your carer assist and monitor while you are undertaking exercise.

Challenge yourself mentally – using your brain helps keep your wit sharp and your memory strong. Trying new mental activities, such as learning a new language or memoir writing can be mentally stimulating.  Crosswords, sudoku and card games can be played by yourself or with others.

Stay connected –even during those times when you might be house bound or not able to be socially active, you can still remain connected to your friends and loved ones.  Write a letter or make a phone call to someone you care about.  Your carer can also help you connect face to face with a video call.

Johannah’s favourite personal goal is to sit outside everyday. “Even for a few minutes, getting out in the sun or garden for a little bit every day can make a huge impact to your outlook and health.”
